Landscapes of Kyoto - Senshun
Dimensions: 91.0cm x 116.5cm
This is when I was still living in Aichi prefecture, one night at the beginning of March , I got a call from the late Toshio Nishiuchi, a Japanese painting artist informing me that it was snowing in Kyoto that night, so I rushed to Kyoto the next morning. I however needed transportation to get around while in Kyoto, so I went there by car and because of that it took time for me to pass through Sekigahara, a popular snow spot, and by the time I arrived in Kyoto, the snow in the city had totally disappeared. With no choice, I wondered around in my car looking for the snow, and in the end, I found this sake brewery in Fushimi. It had nothing to do with the snow, but I felt as if I saw a part of the ancient Kyoto. This happened eighteen or so long years ago.
To make this painting, I visited the same place recently, but the building had been rebuilt and there was nothing to resemble what I saw that day, but within myself, together with the various memories of eighteen years ago, I saw the clear image of the scenery of that day coming back to me.
