On one occasion, I made a sketch of Osawa Pond when the pond's surface was filled with lotus leaves with fully bloomed flowers. On the opposite side of the bank, there were two high class looking boats parked , which in the past were probably used for the boating pleasure of the aristocrats. When I imagined the boats floating on the pond, an elegant sight came to my mind. I have visited the Osawa Pond two or three times since then, but there were no lotuses whatsoever on the pond. Even with different seasons, I thought at least the trace of the lotuses would be there, but I could not feel anything about the lotuses. The two boats were still there, so I am sure it was the same location, however my impression of the place was completely different from when I made the sketch previously.
When I open my sketch book however, the view of the Osawa Pond back then clearly comes back to my mind.
