Landscapes of Kyoto - Ranman
Dimensions: 91.0cm x 116.5cm
I had seen some pictures of Kyoto's cherry blossoms at night and I had been thinking of drawing a painting of cherry blossoms at night. However, the day it was finally happening turned out to be a pouring rainy day. At the Maruyama Park, a famous spot for viewing cherry blossom trees, was far from being in a condition that people could have a drink under the flowers even though the flowers were in full bloom. People who were there to see the cherry blossoms had their umbrellas up and instead of enjoying the flowers, they were minding where they were walking around. Perhaps, if it wasn't raining this much, I might not have been so moved by this particular cherry blossom viewing. In the rain, the lights of the tea house, lanterns and paper lamps are struggling to demonstrate the colorfulness of the cherry blossom viewing. The blue plastic sheets that people sit on while viewing cherry blossoms were shining in the rain, where normally they would have been packed with drunken people. By this time, there was a painting already completed within myself. The interesting thing is that you would not know where the subject of the painting comes from.
