Kozan-ji Temple is famous for the portrait of Myoe Shonin, in which he sits and mediates on a tree, and also the Choju Giga (Animal Caricatures), but instead, I visited the Kozan-ji Temple in search of new leaves and autumn leaves of the Rakusei Toganoo area. I parked my car in a parking lot by Shuzan Road, and as I entered the grounds of the temple, I was right inside of the mountain temple surrounded by a thick clump of trees. As I moved forward, the road approaching the temple was on a slope, so my breath was shortened, and naturally you great other visitors who pass by, probably because the atmosphere surrounding the mountain makes people feel like they are hiking. Enormous trees of Japanese cedar and cypress are standing there, and when the lights filter through the branches to highlight the new leaves of the maples, the stone steps and white walls of the temple ground and moss covered stone walls and the look of the temple gate, tells you the weight of the people's history and its warmth.
