Winter scene in a snowy province
Dimensions: 73.0cm X 91.0cm
Location: Meito Art Museum
I was asked by Toyama prefecture to paint Toyama. I was escorted by the representatives of prefectural government to look around snowy Toyama. As I was raised in Tokyo and not used to the snow, I had a hard time making sketches in the snow. I opened my sketch book on the snow, and asked to have an umbrella open above me; then I was able to make sketches.
This is a painting that I painted at that time, of the community on the other side of the valley. I had a difficult time expressing the quietness of the sequestered scenery.
