Location: Selene Museum of Art, Kurobe Gorge
I have visited Kurobe Gorge several times to make sketches for the work that was requested by Selene Museum of Art in Unazki, Toyama prefecture. This is a painting of Kuroyon dam that I sketched in October 1993. I hear they do not usually release the water like this, but I happened to be there at the time of this dynamic release. So, I clinged on to the rocks and made sketches. Kuroyon dam, with its difficult construction process, was even made into a movie. You will be amazed to see its incredibly big structure that it's almost like ruling nature. I even felt threatened by the power of the water, when I saw it falling as if it just broke off the wall of the dam with the rumbling sound of the ground. There is a hidden history of battle between human and nature.
