2002 Passing of time.jpg

This is a painting of water lilies in a pond at Showa no Mori Park in my previous hometown, Toke in Chiba prefecture. At that time, I had an opportunity to paint Fusuma-e paintings and I was trying out the sumi ink paintings. So for the Autumn Inten exhibitions, I was submitting sumi ink paintings and this was one of them. Water lilies bloom beautiful red and purple flowers during summer. The leaves grow out of the mud with the long stems and float on the water surface, but those leaves eventually wither and sink under the water. The sticks in this painting are the withered stems of cattails. The colorful season is gone but nature is definitely getting ready to inherit to the next generation.
