1978 Nagakute.jpg

Nagakute is a rural town that neighbors eastern Nagoya. The town is famous for having the battle ground for the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute. It recently became famous as the venue of the Aichi Expo, and it also became a city in January 2012. When I started working at Aichi University of the Arts in the 70s, Nagakute was an agricultural area with poorly maintained roads. At the time of this painting, Nagakute was surrounded by these kinds of landscapes. This was right after I started painting landscapes seriously and I remember having a hard time with endless trials and errors.
