Selene Museum of Art in Unazuki Onsen which is located at the foot of Kurobe Gorge in Toyama Prefecture, drew up a project which offered several artists to come and actually see the nature of Kurobe and make Japanese paintings. I took the offer and visited Kurobe Gorge several times to make sketches. It was after the middle of October, I went to paint the famous cross-shaped gorge in Kurobe. I had to walk a total of five hours round trip on the Nichiden-hodou trail that is only about a meter wide, which was built for transporting the materials for the construction of the dam. This is the painting of the S-shaped gorge which I made a sketch of on the way to the cross shaped gorge. I am scared of heights, so I was clinging to the rocks while making this sketch. I hope I have managed to express my fear of heights in this painting.
