The Flowers of the Yoruba
Dimensions: 130.0cm X 160.0cm
Location: Nagoya City Art Museum
I made this painting right after I returned to Japan, from my about 10 month stay in Africa. This painting was selected for the 8th Modern Japanese Art Exhibition sponsored by the Mainichi Newspapers. Yoruba is a tribe in Nigeria, where I stayed. I used to paint dark imagined sceneries but this is the first piece that I painted plants.
The fact that this painting was selected to the Modern Japanese Art Exhibition encouraged me a lot as I had been constantly rejected by other public exhibitions until this painting's selection.
